Lisa Lampanelli is a stand-up comic, known for her scathing insult comedy. Known as the "Lovable Queen of Mean", she has been known to playfully insult just about everyone, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. She has been featured on television networks Comedy Central and HBO, for which she hosted her own one hour special, titled "Lisa Lampanelli: Long Live the Queen".
Lisa Lampanelli was born on July 19, 1961 in Trumbull, Connecticut. Her family, which includes two siblings, her mother, and her father, is of mostly Italian decent. As a child, she attended a local Catholic school. Later, she studied journalism as Syracuse University. She later attended a graduate program at Harvard University.
Some of her earlier jobs include being an assistant at Rolling Stone magazine, a fact checker for Spy magazine, and a copy editor for Popular Mechanics magazine. She once stated in an interview that she was a journalist for Hit Parader and Rolling Stone, and that she interviewed heavy metal bands Cinderella and Slaughter. A book about Spy magazine described her as a "decked out metal-head". She also became the first Chief of Research for the magazine.
Her career as a comedian began in the early 1990, but she did not get her big break until 2002, when she participated in the New York Friars Club roast of actor and comedian Chevy Chase. She also participated in the roasts of other celebrities, such as Pamela Anderson, Jeff Foxworthy, and William Shatner. She later served as Roastmaster for fellow comedian Larry the Cable Guy. She appeared on a roast for Gene Simmons, which was held by the A and E television network, and frequently appears during roasts held by popular radio personality Howard Stern.
Lisa Lampanelli has appeared in several films and television shows. She had small roles in Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector and Delta Farce, both of which starred fellow comedian Larry the Cable Guy. She also appeared in Drillbit Taylor, a comedy starring actor Owen Wilson. She has performed on The Tonight Show and had a cameo appearance in the VH1 sitcom NoTORIous. She filmed a stand-up special for Comedy Central titled Dirty Girl, which first aired in January, 2007. Comedy Central also released a DVD and audio CD of the performance. The album earned the comedian a Grammy nomination in 2008 for Best Comedy Album. She filmed her first one hour HBO special in November, 2008 at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. Titled "Lisa Lampanelli: Long Live the Queen", it first aired in January, 2009. In 2009, she released a memoir titled "Chocolate, Please: My Adventures in Food, Fat, and Freaks". It was released by It Books, an imprint of Harper Collins.
